D’oh! I don’t mean any bridges that the Homer of The Iliad or The Odyssey. I’m talking about Homer Simpson. Can Homer Simpson help you have a more effective internet ministry? I say YES! Mmmmmm…..ministry….. Woo Hoo!
The concept is a called a bridge strategy. I’m not going to go too much into it because my friend Tony already has quite well. The idea is to create a site that meets people where they are in their culture and interests, and bridge from there to the gospel. RealityBlogs.com is an example of one such bridge strategy using blogs.
Today I read an article of a philosophy class at Muhlenberg College called How Homer Simpson can enrich philosophy class. Basically, it’s a bridge strategy, just not one for the web. Check this out:
Jon Eddy always had been a religious skeptic and critic. So when it came time to choose a required religion class at Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pa., the psychology major thought he’d take the easy way out.The senior signed up for ‘Religions of Star Trek’ last semester and thought, ‘Here’s my out. I’m going to destroy this class,’ says Mr. Eddy, joking that he would ace it.
Eddy did earn an A-, and something else he didn’t expect - an altered world view. ‘My eyes opened to just how much spirituality plays into everything - from belief structures to organizational structures,’ says Eddy
So the question is how can you have a more effective evangelistic website? Perhaps if you meet your audience where they are and build around that to bring them closer to God.
Thanks to InternetForChristians.org for pointing out the article.
