Can spam be effective ministry? Can intrusive emails seasoned with gracious gospel help the non-believer?
I’d like to opine differently. I think the gospel is a relational, relevant message. It’s communicated in words, syntax, and format that those that receive it understand and relate. Sure, the gospel is to some the smell of death and a fragrance of life to others, but does this mean we can just go and be intrusive in our approach? Jesus seemed to always take the time to relate His message to people so they would understand. Some were indeed bothered by the gospel message, but even in this story, it was the man who sought Jesus. We take advantage of every situation, but I think we take the approach of Christ…that is to be relevant and gracious. I don’t think spam is relevant and gracious.
There is a good discussion about this on the World Magazine blog. Feel free to post your comments here also.
