Let Others Market For You at effective web ministry notes

Let Others Market For You

I touched on the topic of word of mouth marketing a while back about how one measure of an effective website is when others are evangelists for your site. They are called “customer evangelists” and the concept is that other people like what you offer so much that they tell others about it.

Obviously we are evangelists for the Gospel message. But part of that marketing, part of letting others know that message is getting others point the people they meet to tools such as ministry websites.

This week there were two major public customer evangelist events (I guess you can call them events). If you haven’t seen them yet, you should take a moment to check them out and ponder how can your site be so good (meaning effective) that others would want to point them to it.

First is the incredible home made iPod commercial. You’ve gotta go watch it. It’s so well done. There’s a link to view it in this Wired.com article. It was created by a guy who has no employment connection to Apple. He just loves his iPod and has the tools and time on his hands.

The second is that 10,000 happy and satisfied Firefox users took out a full two-page ad in the NY Times today. This was a grass roots effort where they raised money to take out this ad on behalf of Firefox, the popular new web browser. Digital Inspiration has a good write up on it.
