From Ananova:
A Berkshire library was puzzled when readers started asking for diet books that didn’t exist.Newbury library kept getting asked for books such as Now You Can Eat All The Pies and Lose Your Bum while Sitting On It.
The mystery deepened as other customers requested Honey, I Shrunk My Butt, The Stick Insect Diet and Gorge Yourself Gorgeous.
Finally, librarians worked out that readers had been fooled by magazine ads for Special K cereal, reports the Reading Evening Post.
It asked readers: ‘Are you existing on a diet of over-promises?’ under a bogus ad for nine unlikely diet books.
A Kelloggs spokeswoman said: ‘Oh dear. That is very unfortunate. Obviously, these advertisements were meant to be a spoof and it is a pity that some people wasted their time trying to find them in the library.
‘I am not aware of any other areas where this has happened.’
