Preaching to the Choir at effective web ministry notes

Preaching to the Choir

You’ve probably heard the phrase “preaching to the choir” before. If not, it means you’re sending your message to a group of people that already know it. Some say that “99% [of Christian websites] have been written with only a Christian reader in mind.” I guess you can count this website as one of the 99…but then again, I’m hoping this is a resource.

I was reminded of this idea from this graphic I found from the American Marketing Association blog. This graphic is supposed to be a graph plotting links among democrats and republicans. They are all linking to each other (mostly).

I wonder what the graph would look like if we plotted Christian blogs websites and non-Christian blogs websites. I have the feeling it’d look the same.

I’m not talking about linking to others just to change the graph. I’m wondering how well we’re really reaching out.

Good scrutiny and application of a similar field.

In life we are supposed to reflect God’s glory, and then the relationships we have with non-believers (in this diagram illustrated in yellow lines) will draw them into God’s family. The amazing thing about this is that they will bring all their connections with them, and then the ‘harvest is plentiful’.

God gave us an entire guidebook to live lives that are set apart, but is there something that can be done to websites that make them stand out? That attract others? Will exchanging links with others draw them into your website?

I’d say probably not. Relationships in life are different than relationships on the web. In life we are limited by time and distnace. The web has very few inhibitors. This allows us to link with exactly who we want to link to.

I think the best we can do is do our best.
