You may not know what RSS is right now, or even care. But you will know soon.
The main event of the web used to be “Browse”. Most don’t browse anymore. Now it’s “Search”. Soon (now for some) it will be “Subscribe”.
Steve at MicroPersusaion gives his take on yesterday’s announcement from Microsoft that they are building RSS into the next release of Internet Explorer.
What we need to understand is that more and more, people will be accessing our content through subscriptions. They will want to be notified when our content has been updated. Many want to know it now, but it’s only going to get more popular.
How can we design our sites so that we can:
- Attract people to our content
- Provide relevant content people want to read
- Make it easy for visitors to access our content in the way they want it
