My Thoughts on GodBlogCon at effective web ministry notes

My Thoughts on GodBlogCon

As you know I attended the first ever . Here are some of my thoughts on it all in bullet and unorganized form:

  • I was impressed at the number of people. The AP said about 135 people were here. I thought it looked more like about 75.
  • It had the feel of a first attempt at a conference. I know. I’ve done them too! But overall they did a GREAT job. Kudos guys!
  • I was saddened that the average person in attendance appeared to be a 42-year old middle-class man. Thankfully not everyone was though.
  • I was surprised at how much of a political theme there was here. I was really hoping there would be more people interested in how to use blogs for various applications such as direct ministry. Most was about how to use a blog to communicate Christian thought and use it in politics if you so chose.
  • In one panel discussion, a question had to be asked 3 times before it was finally answered. The question? “How can blogs be used for evangelism?”. The first two answers weren’t answers at all.
  • It was good to meet other Christian bloggers.

I don’t want to sound like it wasn’t all good. I’m just disappointed more than excited about the conference. Maybe I came not fully understanding it. I would have shared these thoughts with the organizers but they didn’t have a place to give them feedback. I think they plan to receive the feedback via blogs like this…which is cool.

I’m glad I came though. It’s always good to get around people who are wanting to use emerging technologies in Kingdom ways. I had just hoped it would have been more focused on other uses of blogs.

The official GodBlogCon blog is posting many other thoughts and perspectives. Also check out the Flikr photos from the conference.

?How can blogs be used for evangelism?

I’m glad to hear that there was some persistence with that question.

When the conference was first annouced, I had offered to speak on that and church blogging - but was treated like I didn’t know what I was talking about.

Glad to see at least DJChuang and the ESV boys made it out - they do know their stuff.

    Maybe next year.

Thanks for leaving a comment, Mark! Yes, let’s continue the discussion here if we could? I’m about to catch my flight back to Orlando so I can pick it back up this week.

In the meantime, you can read some of my thoughts on this in a presentation I gave last week.
