Lessons from a Youth Pastor at effective web ministry notes

Lessons from a Youth Pastor

What can a youth pastor teach us about ministering online? Well, start with this list that Grant thinks every new youth pastor really needs to know. Points such as:

1. There is no such thing as “cool clipart.” It all looks ridiculous and cheesy. Let’s just call it what it is and go on with life.

4. Dress does matter. Don’t ever show up to a youth event in a suit or business casual for that matter.

8. Your volunteers are your greatest asset and lifelines. They are not obstacles. Trust them implicitly.

14. The best conversations happen on the way home and after curfew.

Those are just some from his list. Some of the others may not apply directly to eMinistry (see his #9). But to expound on these I pulled from his list, I think we should know our audience and plan to minister to them. Put some effort to your designs. Your online presence makes a difference. Fit in with your audience. Honor your volunteers and realize that in eMinistry, the actual “ministry” may take place offline or in a way you didn’t expect.
