Microsoft is supposed to release their upgrade to Internet Explorer later this year. Included in that release will be the ability to integrate RSS feeds better into the browser.
Last month Microsoft announced that the icon they will use for RSS feeds will be the same one that their competitor, Firefox, uses.
So get used to this icon. You’ll begin to see it more and more as the year goes on.

Even better is Feed Icons: http://www.feedicons.com/, all sorts of formats, allow you to customize.
I think that it would be a good idea use this within our sites, it will be more user friendly than the initials RSS or XML. Many of IE’s users are not tech savvy so it would make sense to give them a button they recognise.
I agree, Dan. I’ve added the icon as the top icon under the “subscriptions” in the sidebar. I think the ones I have in there now are the best ones to stick with for now.
Actually it is amazing how many people in the blogsphere have quickly swoped their rss logos to this new “standard”.
