Beware of Black Hat SEO

MarketingProfs.com has a good article called Beware of Black Hat SEO:
Search engine spammers never prosper. Sooner or later, they get caught. And when they do, it’s almost never pretty.
Consequences can include ranking penalties, removal of the site’s “voting” power (i.e., ability to pass PageRank), incomplete indexation (i.e., a partial site ban), or, worst of all, […]

Starbuckization of society?

Some interesting comments on how Starbucks is changing society:

Changing what we’ll pay for coffee.
Changing coffee tastes.
Changing what we eat.
Changing how we order.
Changing how people meet.
Changing cities.
Changing social consciousness.

Okay, I’ll argue that it’s not our role to change the price or flavor of coffee, but oh sometimes I wish we had the same sort of impact […]

overreaching

Sometimes it’s good to try out a new idea that isn’t necessarily part of your scope. Sometimes you might find that entering into a new arena (aka: brand extension) might give you new opportunities for ministry.
However, if you’re going to try it, don’t follow the mistake Starbucks made with CD-burners. If you expand, […]

Anonymity Online

Paul Martin writes today on Anonymity and Problems in Forums
Is it possible to actually have an “online community” in any real sense? Maybe, but the fact that anyone can submit only what they want people to know about themselves is the antithesis of real community. The question I have is, if this is true and […]

Google AdWords to Include Flash Ads

This could potentially be huge. Inside AdWords reports:
In the coming days, we will be adding click-to-play video ads to the line-up of text, Flash and image ad formats currently supported by the Google content network. At launch, video ads will be available to AdWords advertisers in the US, Canada and Japan - but we […]

Five Year Anniversary

It occurred to me the other day that the five year anniversary of the attacks on NYC and Washington DC is coming this September 11.
Now could be a good time to (re)create ministry sites for the anniversary. People are still hurting.

Search Goes Mobile

An article on ClickZ notes the coming trend in search - toward mobile phones.
The author quotes other sources quite a bit. Here are some of his excerpts:
“…twice as many cell phones are in use than PCs worldwide. One research organization predicts cell phone use will reach 3.3 billion by 2010, more than a 50 […]

Marketing the DaVinci Code

I can’t blame many media outlets for thinking that Campus Crusade is promoting seeing/reading the DaVinci Code. Press is picking up and we’re trying to set that notion straight.
But I can understand the confusion.
Anyway, I found this article explaining some of the offline marketing we’ve been doing for DiscussDaVinci.com (full disclosure: I only work […]

Using Google Trends

Looking at this list of 25 Things Steve Learned on Google Trends, makes me wonder how else we can use this?
For instance, it’s interesting to see how Jesus vs God is doing and what languages.
