An article on ClickZ notes the coming trend in search - toward mobile phones.
The author quotes other sources quite a bit. Here are some of his excerpts:
“…twice as many cell phones are in use than PCs worldwide. One research organization predicts cell phone use will reach 3.3 billion by 2010, more than a 50 percent increase over 2005.”
“The leading edge battleground between us and Google in local search really will come on the phone,” predicts Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer.
Google Chief Executive, Eric Schmidt, recently said on the sidelines of its annual analyst conference that mobile advertising was the company’s single most exciting opportunity.
Much of the effectiveness of using the Internet to talk about Jesus results from search engines bringing people to your site when they are ready to think about their own spirituality. Imagine how much more effective that dynamic can be if the search engine can be accessible by phone! Now would be a good time to start watching developments in this area and begin learning how to maximize mobile searching.

good point. in real estate it’s all about location, location, location. in internet/mobile phone search it’s speed speed speed. those walls will drop i’m certain. i wonder what’s the best way to prepare?
Great point Jerry! One thing to keep in mind is to remember that your website is likely to look different on a small form factor (e.g. cellphone) than on a big PC screen. I wrote an article talking about the implications that might be helpful to folks: http://law-of-mobility.com/2006/04/08/is-mobi-the-right-answer/
As I mentioned in that article, sometimes it makes sense to create a version of your website just for mobile devices. For example, compare http://m.seek-first.com with http://www.seek-first.com
But sometimes, if you’re careful in how you design your webpage, it can work equally well on just about any device.
