Are you Linked In?- Professional Networking

We have been discussing social network websites like MySpace and Facebook. There is another breed of networking websites. One of these is LinkedIn.

LinkedIn is a professional relational networking site that allows you to connect with current and former people you work with. You can search for classmates you went to school with. Also, it is a way to find jobs, business opportunities, post jobs and more.

I think I’m the only person alive who doesn’t have time or need to dig up people from my past. I wonder why?

If someone was that important to my life, I just goggle ‘em, or call a friend, or expect the Lord to cross our paths when it’s time again. I stay pretty busy with spare time taking care of the friends I have now. Maybe I don’t nurture past friendships enough, but there always seemed to be a good reason God was moving everybody on.

I’m curious as to the real useful application of these “searches”. Have you used one where it was a God thing? I’d like to hear about it.

I am now! I, too, am curious about how this might work as a spiritual networking opportunity. Right now the best I can tell is that it’s good for networking with people you know in a resume sort of way.

So, it’s like a business card? Except people can figure out friends you have in common and more easily smooze with you. I mean, get to know you?) I can see some business benefit to that. I imagine we could cross train each other more in the body of Christ than we are doing with more “connections” to those with like interests. Blogging has helped some where there was nothing for me on the net for developing and working with Christian praise bands, for ex.

Mag, kinda sorta. I think it is that, but expanded. It’s a resume. But you only have those you want to see it be able to see it. So it’s a closed network unless you open it up yourself.

Right now, I see this as a way for Christians to be connected from a business perspective. Building the capacity for ministry, or networking to know where you can go to hire help, find a partnership, or consult for ministry projects.
