Ever been to a website where images take forever to load? And when they do, they look horrible? This is more common on blog and discussion forums. Please don’t be that person who is responsible for doing this.
For heaven’s sakes, please, if you aren’t able to resize images before you email or post them online, use the web to resize your images!
This website was created out of frustration of users asking questions like How do I resize images? How do I make images smaller? and How do I shrink this picture for an avatar?. So, we created the Shrink Pictures tools that are no more difficult than posting in a Forum and now anyone can Resize Images and Digital Pictures.
Another way is to join Flickr and upload there. When you do, they will give you the HTML code for different sizes of the image.
Basic rule of thumb: don’t put an image online higher than 72 dpi resolution, and they usually don’t need to be any wider than 500 pixels.

I like the free program InfranView to resize also. I keep a folder with all resized “bloggable” pics. It allows a fast “resizer”. I just choose 500 pixels for one dimension, and it automatically generates the other number to keep the picture proportional. I haven’t been able to figure out why people would want to upload a picture too large, wait for that, then downsize. I’d rather downsize before loading it to the web at all! Yeah, please resize pics! Wordpress.com won’t even LET you upload a large pic.
