digg for ministry at effective web ministry notes

digg for ministry

Digg! You may have noticed at the bottom of every post on eMinistryNotes.com is a little text link that says “digg it”. And perhaps you’ve wondered about it or you clicked it and didn’t know what in the world was going on.

Digg.com is a social site that allows you to submit web pages to the larger community. Members of the community can “digg” a page by voting it up or “bury” it by voting it down. The most popular sites (usually articles) show up on the homepage.

One result of showing up on the digg homepage is that you can receive thousands of visits quickly. Many sites have been brought to their knees because they couldn’t handle “the digg-effect”.

One way I see digg being used in our ministry context is to know a few members who are submitting pages that you’re interested in. If you mark each other as friends, you can monitor what they are submitting.

Where I think digg can have an interesting impact is for emergency response ministry. Let’s say, for example, there is another natural disaster that makes global headlines. Have a ministry response article ready and submit it. Have some friends digg it and hopefully it’ll bring some traffic.

I found a great article called Beginner’s Guide to Digg that is really worth a read to understand digg better. If you’re a member, let me know so I can add you as a friend. On digg, I’m orangejack.

By the way, I dugg this article so you can vote it up or down if you like. I’ve also tried adding my diggs to the RSS feed of this site. We’ll see if it works!
