Search Campus Crusade at effective web ministry notes

Search Campus Crusade

ccc logoYou probably know that Campus Crusade for Christ has A LOT of information online. Problem is the content is scattered among over 400 websites!

Did you know that we now own a Google Search Appliance that keeps up with all the Campus Crusade websites? It’s a quite simple URL to search Campus Crusade’s resources: http://search.ccci.org. So just bookmark that page and search all the Campus Crusade resources.

What’s that you say? You need an easier way to search this content? Very well then. You are using Firefox, right? If not, start now.

Firefox has a bunch of search engines already installed and located in the upper-right of the chrome (the browser stuff above the actual website). The default is Google (google.com, not the CCCI Google appliance) but it also comes with Yahoo and many others…and there’s tons of engines you can install. Unfortunately at this time the Campus Crusade Search Engine isn’t available as a stand-alone engine (anyone want to set it up and make it available?). But there is a work-around.

Yesterday I discovered a Firefox add-on called OpenSearchFox via Lifehacker.

Step 1: Install OpenSearchFox and restart Firefox.

Step 2: Go to search.ccci.org and right-click on the search box. You should see an option for “Add OpenSearch plugin”. Click that.

Step 3: You’ll get some options for what you want to call it and such. Have fun. You can even give it an icon if you like (feel free to download and use the CCC logo above).

Step 4: Check your search engine list by clicking on the icon for the engine used to get a list of what you have installed. Pick the new CCCI engine and type a search.

Step 5: Enjoy and minister.

If you have a Campus Crusade website that isn’t being indexed by this search engine, you can fill out this form on the Global Technology Office website. You can also learn a lot more about the Search Appliance on the GTO site.

UPDATE: Okay, so you want this in Internet Explorer instead? Fine. I’ll accept that as long as you have upgraded to IE7. Here’s what you do:

search ieStep 1: Go to IE7’s “Add Search Providers to Internet Explorer 7″ page.

Step 2: Follow the instructions in the “Create Your Own” box and press the Install button.

It really is that simple. IE7 adds the Campus Crusade Search Appliance to the list of available search engines in the chrome (upper right) of Internet Explorer. Just make sure when you do searches you have the correct engine chosen.
