Catching up on blogs, I wanted to post up a couple of tips. One is a suggestion, the other is a warning.
SUGGESTION
When emailing a long web address to someone, there are plenty of tools you can use to make the address much shorter. Please use them. It’s easy and very effective. I’ve always been a fan of TinyURL, but lately have been using urlTea.
WARNING
If you use public computers (like in a library or internet cafe), be sure to do a check to make sure there isn’t a keylogger plugged in. These are little devices that can be plugged into the computer and will track all your key strokes. In other words, it’ll remember your passwords. Then someone comes back and takes the device home and they’ve got all of your keystrokes recorded.
Traveling last week and using internet cafes in Thailand I didn’t even think about this. Thinking back I remember not seeing one of these installed, but realized the sites I went to almost all had an ID and password associated with them. When I was done I went into the Firefox settings and cleared all the cookies, cache, etc, but if there was a keylogger there, it wouldn’t have mattered.
