In Genesis 14:20, a story is told of how Abraham gave all the tithes to the High Priest of God, Melchizedek. This was way before any law had been established from God to his people Israel and later to the whole world. Abraham walked with God therefore God directed his steps and actions. Tithing is therefore a fundamental part of a Christian’s life. As you read the story of Abraham you will find that he was very prosperous. This was as result of walking with God and obeying his will all the time. God therefore never withheld anything from him.
Later on God gave out the laws to Moses which the children of Israel were to live by. In Deuteronomy 26, God gave the Israelites instructions on how top give the tithes. To the tither, this action was to praise and thank God for what he had done for him. It was also a way of making sure that the Levites who were the servants of God never went without food, neither did the poor and the needy among them.
In Malachi 3, the issue of tithing is further expounded. God is saying that when we refuse to tithe, we are robbing God. He goes on to ask, will a man rob God, yet we do when we do not give our tithes. He goes further to give the blessings of a tither. God will open up the windows of heaven and pour out a blessing you do not have room to receive. He asks you to test him in this, if it does not work, ask him why. As you have seen, tithing is Bible approved.
