Christian family devotions are so important for the entire family. First of all, it brings the family together at least once a day. Children realize the necessity of learning about God and His ways. And most importantly, it teaches the children what simple devotion is with God, that it doesn’t have to be hours long to be instrumental in their life.

Days seem to go by so fast and families don’t always have the time to be together in the same room at the same time. But, Christian family devotions are an important way to bring families together. It brings Mom and Dad and children to closeness with God to pray for others, talk about problems they may have, and answer questions about their walk with God. It’s a chance to unite busy families with conversation, laughter, tears, or whatever.

Family devotions are necessary in teaching children about God and His ways. The only way families can learn about God is reading His word and talking to Him in prayer. They learn how God wants them to act, how to speak, and how to think in a way that’s pleasing to Him. Praying for others is definitely an important aspect as well. It teaches the children to think about problems around the world, be it poverty, famine, missionaries and their safety, salvation for others, etc. The list can go on and on. Praying for others reminds families not to just think about their own agenda, but to care and be concerned about others and their problems or events going on in their lives.

Christian family devotions do not have to be an hour long to be instrumental in the lives of families. There are many, many booklets or one-day-at-a-time devotional books that would only take about 15 to 20 minutes to discuss. Actually, devotions can be as long or as short as one would want them to be. It simply depends on the individual family. The main thing to keep in mind is that the focus of the family is to learn something important about God by reading the Bible as well as the devotional tool. The tools are great, but God’s word is best to absorb from. And including prayer in the devotion time for not only your family but others as well is definitely detrimental.

In closing, Christian family devotions bind the family with God. He is the glue that strengthens the family ties forever and nothing on this earth can ever separate the bonds between God and family. Devotions bring a family together, instruct them in God’s ways, and don’t have to be a major ordeal to be an important part of a family’s life.
