Check out this puzzling situation. The world becomes upset with people who deny the Holocaust. In some countries it’s against the law to publicly express doubt that it happened. The condemnation of Hitler and his barbaric slaughter of six million Jews seems almost universal among western nations. However, there is a paradoxical situation that defies any explanation but one.
The Islamic world consistently has issued statements that Israel and the Jewish people must be wiped off the face of the Earth. However, I never hear any of the Western nations calling them out for their bellicose position. The tiny nation of Israel has faced overwhelming odds for survival since its founding in 1948. If you have studied the birth of that nation, you realize that the Arab nations had surrounded the fledgling country waiting for the British to pull out.
The Brits, on the other hand, had been quite meticulous in preventing the Jews from arming sufficiently to defend themselves against an opponent who vastly outnumbered them, had more firepower, and swore they would exterminate the Israelis. If this had been a football game, I’m sure Las Vegas would given the Jews a exorbitant point spread and still nobody would have bet on the Zionists. They didn’t have a prayer. Or did they? And then in 1973, the Arab armies grouped again and made another attempt to stomp out the virus called the Jewish nation. This time the Israelis had modern firepower and routed the Arabs six days. How many wars were over in six days?
As a history major (and a lover of Fiddler on the Roof), I had always wondered why the world through the centuries has persecuted this seemingly insignificant group of people who don’t appear to warrant such treatment. This small ethnic group has provided more scholars, artists, musicians, and etcetera per capita than any other by far. Shouldn’t this success in the world have won them some respect? It seems the only thing it earned them besides hatred was jealousy.
Before I ever read Exodus and subsequent books featuring the fight of the Israelis, I understood that the Jews were a people of destiny. Is it possible that the miraculous victory of the rag tag bunch of combatants over the organized armies of several Arab nations is proof that the Jews are God’s chosen people? If that is true, most intellectuals would question where God was during the Holocaust. However, God had promised that he would restore His people to the Promised Land. He had not promised protection of the Jews from all persecution until then.
Now back to the present. Why are the civilized countries of the world not standing up to try to prevent a reoccurrence of the Holocaust or rather the finalization of it? A historical genocide is such a terrible thing that denying the reality of it is a crime, but a future genocide of even worse proportions is not enough of a horrible concept to cause any world leaders to jump on the bandwagon to protect the Jews. The future looks black for Israel and Jews in other nations as well as anti-Semitism is on the rise. The US and Britain have been faithful in the past to champion the rights of the Israelis to exist. Now that support is waning. Is there any way for one small country to continue to survive? Yes, there is one way. Only through God’s supernatural hand of protection will the destruction of the Jews be avoided.
Let’s put this into perspective. Imagine that a small Christian high school football team takes the field against an NFL team (you supply the team of your choice). No one in their right mind who had any knowledge of football would consider that the high school boys could even survive a game with the men of the NFL, much less win the game. Before the game the boys proclaim that God is on their side. If the kids actually won the game, who could doubt that fact? The only other logical explanation would be an allegation that the NFL team lost on purpose.
That analogy is fairly close to the reality of the survival of Israel to this point. How can anyone doubt that God is with them and that the prophecies for the future are about to be fulfilled? Those who wish to deny the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob (aka Israel) will do so no matter how much evidence is presented to them. God seems to have a flair for the dramatic. The ending of the story will be spectacular, even though we know the ending. Imagine the surprise of all those people who deny the HolyCause?
