If you are looking to be a regular winner at Texas Hold’em, then you must consider the following three points. On an average, a) you must enter the pot with a better hand than your opponents, b) you must be able to recognize the probability of having the best hand or being able to develop the best hand in any situation, and c) you must understand the significance of position in the game, all the while increasing your stack and decreasing losses.

Positions of importance and the good starting hands should be understood which can be learnt from the following article.

Know your position…
Your action during each round of betting is what position in the game refers to you.The dealer or the button always has the best position since he/she acts after everyone else has played. The decision on how the player has to proceed can be made after observing everyone which is allowed by this and is also a huge advantage. He/she could even limp in – instead of raising a bet, the player calls the bet to enter the pot – without the fear of being raised by the blinds. In case you have a drawing hand, this position gives you the advantage of being able to see another card for free.

The player who is on the right of the button is another position that is considered to be advantageous. This continues towards the player who is on the left of the big blind and it referred to as ‘under-the-gun’.

In terms of starting hands, you must know that the first three places to the left of the big blind are called the early position, the next three places form the middle position, while the button and the place to his/her right make up the late position.

Starting hands…
I have made a list of starting hands in each position for beginners, which is why they are very tight. When you enter a pot you will be enabled to have a strong hand, and when you play these serve as a set of guidelines to follow. The more you play, the more you will be able to add to this list on the basis of your skill, experience and knowledge of opponents.

Early Position: AA, KK, QQ, AKs, AK, AQs, AQ, AJs
Middle Position: JJ, TT, AJ, ATs, AT, KQs, KQ, KJs, KJ, QJs
Late Position: 99, A5s, A4s, A3s, A2s, KTs, KT, K9s, QJ, QTs, QT, JTs
Small Blind: 88, 77, 66, 55, 44, 33 22, JT along with any other suited cards

In the later positions any hand which has been listed for early position can be included. For players to understand and avoid duplication they have been listed only once. The small ’s’ beside certain pairs indicates that they are suited. For instance, AKs is an Ace and King of Hearts or Spades.| Ace and king of hearts or spades is indicated by AKs for instance.}

Keep in mind that all the above suggestions have been made based on the assumption that no one has raised before your entering the pot. It would be wise for you to go ahead with only the best hands like pairs and with big kickers in case a raise has already been called by another player.
