As you move through the inner space of consciousness toward union with Self, there is a bridge you must pass over… It is on this bridge that you shed the remaining particles of error thoughts and negative beliefs and go through the final cleansing. As the bridge comes into view, your world may seem to turn upside down, and the reason is because you are beginning the process of letting go of everything that seemed secure to you…Your ego may choose to do battle as you step on to the bridge, and it will do whatever is necessary to save itself. If that means creating an insufficiency of funds, it will do it, because this effect could very well cause you to step back… Another ego tantrum may give the appearance of a business failure, or the interruption of a successful career, or perhaps a physical ailment. The ego simply wants to show who is boss.
John Price is an author of several books incorporating ancient wisdom, contemporary metaphysics and spiritual philosophy. The quote above is from his book, “The Planetary Commission.”
John explains what my first step might feel like when I begin to reconnect to my inner world. After living a life filled with the pleasures of ego-based satisfaction, it’s not easy to change my focus. It takes practice, patience and the realization that unity brings wholeness; this wholeness is an awakening of another aspect of who I am. It is the connection I forgot when I began this physical journey.
I have read about the ego and how it controls my everyday life when I allow it to do that. At first it works just fine, then gradually it begins to think for me. My thoughts become fear based ideas and manifest into the world of survival of the strongest; the best, the greatest, the perfect, all live in this world and I strive to become one of them. I’ll do anything to be part of the game, even when it starts to destroy me. My ego takes me down the road of breakdowns and I call it life, waiting for death. The road is filled with pain, anger and judgment; and I project those thoughts on to everyone around me; misery attracts company, which is really ego spreading it’s inflated sense of worth onto the bread of friendship. At some point other aspects of myself emerge and I begin to wake up.
This awakening comes in many different ways; Pierce explains a few reactions that manifest when I start to question what I am doing with this physical life. These acts of loss represent the bridge of discovery; the illusions disappear and the reality of union takes it place. It’s not the death of ego but the marriage of other aspects of consciousness with my ego in order to be the whole that is part of another whole. I begin to see with my feelings and emotions and I sense my connection with all life. I reach within and ring the bell of forgiveness and continue to let it ring; I accept contrast and grow from the lessons it offers me; I open my heart and allow my freedom to shine in the light of diversity.
The union of my inner world is a grand event. I experience things that I never realize existed; I see things for the first time, that were always right in front of me; abundance, happiness and peace fill my thoughts and I express them; I become more than human, I become what I have always been, a spirit having a human experience.
Now I travel my path with unconditional service to all life; I see the beauty in nature and communicate with it; I feel the love that is everything and grow from it; I see separated egos and know that union is just a thought away. My mind becomes a bag filled with the confetti of forgiveness and I continue to reach in the bag and shower myself with this forgiving confetti and spread it freely in gratitude. My ego shakes and wiggles but it remembers now, that it is just a part of the whole that creates my world.
