You didn’t have to grow up on a farm to have competed in stone skipping. Stone skipping is a pastime which involves throwing a stone with a flattened surface across a lake or other body of water in such a way that it bounces off the surface of the water. The object of the game is to see how many times a stone can be made to bounce before sinking. 

I Russia this game is called “baking pancakes”. Whatever!

But let’s look at the religious comparable. For many years of my life I “skipped Scriptures” across the landscape of my life and others. The objective was of course to win more bounces-points than those of other religions. Doctrines, dogma, rituals, and rules were my most favorite rocks! Reading the Bible from a superficial, surface approach only is a good start, but a bad end.

God who created the universe is deeper than literalists go.

Surely we must know and agree that God has hidden messages that challenge us forever no matter how many times we read a verse or book of the Bible (any religious text). The infinite creator didn’t plainly speak it all. How silly of us to pretend or unconsciously think that EVERYTHING that God IS could be put into one Bible, one library of sixty six books, seventy three, or however many you subscribe to.

And yet people will call you a heretic if you quote from the Gospel of Thomas!

Say what? There are many, many Christians who feel that ALL God said was said some 2,000+ years ago and that is it. For me, skipping across the universe of vastness and unfathomable beauty is great; however, sinking into the BEING that God is, that we ALL are, has no comparison. To sink into the ocean of cosmic love is an experience beyond words.
