Is ISO and ROM Gaming Sites Illegal?

Some sites give away their legal copy of iso and roms for people to download. Is this really illegal or wrong in the bible to download from the person who is giving away their copy of their game? To me it’s not really stealing really. I mean for example, if a friend of yours says I have a these games I don’t play anymore, take them for free. Don’t see that as wrong.

Only the copyright holders can make their intellectual property available. Otherwise, you need to have the PHYSICAL copy of the game, or download it from the copyright holder directly.

People who have copies of the game, but not the copyrights to the game, are acting illegally when they offer downloads, and so are the people who download such games. Most ROMs are illegal, by the way.

Now, personally I’d love to get some copies of some older games (I loved M.U.L.E., for instance, and it’s just not legally available for modern machines). However, I have also been on the other side of the table. I’ve written and published articles, and I’ve had those articles republished. I DO NOT like this. It’s not just a question of money (though I admit that the money is part of it), it’s a matter of my rights being violated.
